George and Rosa explored and illustrated many shared themes in their prison letters including, but not limited to, the development of revolutionary consciousness, the power of violent systems, the importance of solidarity and community, and the complexity of the concept of freedom. In this workshop, prompts and exercises will guide participants through George and Rosa’s letters while encouraging participants to think about how values, relationships, and beliefs can guide actions. Participants will also engage in letter writing exercises.
This virtual event is free to attend but participants are encouraged to contribute to our fundraiser for National Bail Out, a Black-led and Black-centered collective of abolitionist organizers, lawyers, and activists building a community-based movement to support our folks in abolishing pretrial detention systems and dismantling the prison industrial complex.
